Dave Haney was the speaker at the KDUVfm Hume Lake Mother's Day Family Weekend. Dave is the pastor at
Riverbend Church in Austin, TX. So I was geeked out a little before I even met him and here's why.
Riverbend Church was the facility used 2 years ago for the funeral of former first lady Ladybird Johnson.
When I met Dave this past weekend, he shared with me his perspective of Mrs. Johnson's funeral. He was standing in a medium-sized room with some Secret Service agents and President and Rosalynn Carter walk in. The Carters, over the course of the next few minutes, proceed to greet members of seven First Families: the Johnson family, the Nixon family, the Ford family, the Reagan family, the first and second Bush families, and the Clinton family.
Can you imagine? Being in a room with that much history. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
But that wasn't the end of Dave's story. One of Dave's duties for the day was to escort former first lady Nancy Reagan to and from her seat. He asked a Secret Service agent if there were any special protocols or instructions. All they told him was
make sure she doesn't fall.
Needless to say, his day went successful because if Mrs. Reagan would have fallen, you would've heard about it in the news and Dave's name would've been everywhere. One of those circumstances which if you do your job right, then no one will know otherwise.
Dave shared his heart this weekend about being a parent and the importance of living out Micah 6:8: doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, I highly recommend.
